Garageland Child Safeguarding Statement

As defined in the Children First Act, 2015, “harm” means, in relation to a child
(a) assault, ill-treatment, or neglect of the child in a manner that seriously affects or
is likely to seriously affect the child’s health, development, or welfare, or
(b) sexual abuse of the child, whether caused by a single act, omission or
circumstance or a series or combination of acts, omissions, or circumstances, or
otherwise.
1. Name of service being provided: Garageland – Promotions and Media – Creative
Music and performance support
2. Nature of service and principles to safeguard children from harm : Here at
Garageland we provide the following services to children/young people: Production
of high quality bespoke music events and festivals at a national and local scale, such
as Garageland Galaxyz at Cruinniú na nÓg, Garageland Teen Spirit, St Patrick’s Day
Parade Floats, The Irish Youth Music Awards. Coaching and encouragement of
creativity in music production and performance in live music venue settings,
recording studios, and also in youth club / project settings. We also provide one to
one music tuition and instruction, as well as workshops relating to recording,
performance and creativity.
We believe the following:
1. Our priority to ensure the welfare and safety of every child and young person who
attends our service is paramount.
2. Our guiding principles and procedures to safeguard children and young people reflect
national policy and legislation and we will review our guiding principles and child
safeguarding procedures every two years.
3. All children and young people have an equal right to attend a service that respects
them as individuals and encourages them to reach their potential, regardless of their
background.
4. All children should be equally protected from harm regardless of race, ability,
ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
5. We are committed to upholding the rights of every child and young person who
attends our service, including the rights to be kept safe and protected from harm,
listened to and heard.
6. Our guiding principles apply to everyone in our organisation.
7. Workers/volunteers must conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of
our organisation.
Risk Assessment
We have carried out an assessment of any potential for harm to a child while availing of
our services including the area of online safety when accessing the internet. Below is a
list of the areas of risk identified and the list of procedures for managing these risks.

Assure that all participating young people
are accompanied by relevant trained
vetted person / youth worker with
knowledge of their attending young people.
Request in advance information that may
be useful in this situation, and assure that
relevant persons are acting responsibly for
the behaviour of their young people and
for the safety of others. Assure correct
ratio of stewarding staff.

member of
staff/volunteer/stranger/peer;

11 – Risk of harm (as defined in the Children
First Act 2015) through access to ICT /
unauthorised photography (e.g., social
media or web access, electronic contact,
etc).
Assure adherance to all regulations
relating to GDPR. All staff must be familiar
with privacy principles, and must commit
to the safeguarding of any personal
information. Warning notices must be
clearly placed both physically at venue and
on online references to an event in any
instance where photography or
videography is occuring and staff and
relevant adults must be informed and must
share these notices. Consent forms to be
signed to cover all young people taking
part in any event.

3. Procedures
Our Child Safeguarding Statement has been developed in line with requirements under
the Children First Act 2015, Children First: National Guidance for the Protection and
Welfare of Children (2017), and Tusla’s Child Safeguarding: A Guide for Policy, Procedure
and Practice. In addition to the procedures listed in our risk assessment, the following
procedures support our intention to safeguard children while they are availing of our
service:
Procedure for the management of allegations of abuse or misconduct against
workers/volunteers of a child availing of our service;
Procedure for the safe recruitment and selection of workers and volunteers to
work with children;
Procedure for provision of and access to child safeguarding training and
information, including the identification of the occurrence of harm;
Procedure for the reporting of child protection or welfare concerns to Tusla;
Procedure for maintaining a list of the persons (if any) in the relevant service
who are mandated persons;
Procedure for appointing a relevant person.
All procedures listed are available upon request.
4. Implementation
We recognise that implementation is an on-going process. Our service is committed to
the implementation of this Child Safeguarding Statement and the procedures that
support our intention to keep children safe from harm while availing of our service.
This Child Safeguarding Statement will be reviewed on 28/02/2026 or as soon as
practicable after there has been a material change in any matter to which the statement
refers.
