Garageland on RTE 2XM started in September 2016 as an idea for an insert into Dan Hegarty’s RTE2FM radio show. In discussions around creating a ten minute slot to support emerging artists, it was quickly decided that Garageland should have it’s own radio show, and in that moment, opportunities for thousands of new artists were created.
In the 9 and a bit years since the show started, we created a weekly live session broadcasting from RTE Studio 6, which proved massively popular, and some of the artists who joined us included the little known Inhaler, as well as Gavin James, Thanks Mom, Fuzz Gigolo, The Pale, Thomas Walsh, Picturehouse, Silver Relics (NYC), Niamh Crowther, Ham Sandwich and many more.
We began broadcasting from some of our giant festival events, alongside social media streaming from the same events, with highlights including the annual Garageland Galaxyz at Cruinniú na nÓg, which saw streaming in excess of 1,000,000 reels in 2022 and continuing with these numbers annually.
Famous first interviews include Inhaler, Thanks Mom, Florence Road (in collaboration with The Irish Times), Teagan Nolan, and some surprises planned before our 500th show on 29th December!
We would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Florence Road on their fantastic successes in 2025, with sold out shows in Whelans and The Academy, as well as their guest slot with Olivia Rodrigo at Marley Park, not to mention their tours of USA and Australia – FR played their first ever live gig with Garageland in June 2022 as part of Garageland Galaxyz at Cruinniú na nÓg, and then subsequent live indoor shows at The Sound House and Fibbers before going on to world domination, and it’s always a thrill to see artists come through Garageland in this way. Go Florence Road! (photo is the first actual press shot from FR June 2022!).
We have some very exciting plans for our radio broadcasting in 2026, so keep the music coming to info@garageland.ie and watch out for our 500th celebration show on Monday 29th December!
