Dublin band PictureHouse have teamed-up with Irish visual artist Barry Jazz Finnegan to create a striking video for Rules of Science, their new single in tribute to Nelson Mandela.
As prominent members of Dublin’s art scene, PictureHouse singer Dave Browne says, “I bumped into Barry at a party and played him the song, explaining the song encompasses the message of hope against despair, and he suggested he make the video, as he believed Nelson Mandela would have broken the rules of science for his people.”
Already been playlisted by BBC Radio 2 in the UK and RTE Radio 1 in Ireland, the single’s video took the 32 year old artist thirteen hours to complete, with his only reference point being an image of Mandela on his iPod.
Finnegan said, “I always sketched since I was a kid but got into large scale photo-realistic portraits in charcoal about four years ago. I am self-taught, mostly trial and error. It really started off as a hobby that I posted on Facebook and YouTube. I soon began to get a lot of attention and very positive feedback.”
Co-written by Dave Browne with Lasse Anderson, the son of former Abba manager Stig Anderson, Rules of Science is released on March 17th on the PHRC label via Universal.
